Senior Mechanical Engineer

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Whipsaw you will be responsible for the creation, development, testing and realization of inventive, cutting-edge, mechanical engineering solutions. You will be heavily involved in all areas of product development from concept sketches to mass production.  You should be comfortable working on multiple projects in parallel. A Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead a small team of engineers, share knowledge and expertise and help create a working environment where team members feel motivated to excel. You also will be responsible for managing and adhering to project schedules and budgets, and regularly updating and reporting to the director of engineering. This position will be primarily located in our San Francisco Studio.  You must have current documentation to be able to work in the United States.

 

You will be required to (but not limited to):

  • Lead and collaborate with team members across multiple disciplines both internal and external
  • Provide inspiring leadership to a small team of engineers
  • Creating, managing and adhering to project schedules and budgets
  • Generate mechanical architectures, parts and assemblies that elegantly achieve product requirements with an emphasis on manufacturability and product cost
  • Guide projects through certification and agency approval processes
  • Efficiently communicate ideas verbally and visually with team members, clients and vendors
  • Coordinate, design, fabricate and test of prototypes at all stages of development

 

Some things we consider critical:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Proven team leadership experience
  • 7+ years of experience in consumer, commercial, medical, or robotics product development
  • Extensive experience in creating project schedules and budgets
  • Extensive SolidWorks experience including master model and part breakup, BOM creation and maintenance as well as PDM Vault maintenance
  • Part design for injection molding, casting, sheet metal, machining and additive manufacturing
  • Creation of 2D Documentation (critical to function at a minimum, GD&T preferred)
  • Engineering fundamentals: material selection, tolerance analysis, process selection
  • Familiarity with simulation tools such as FEA and CFD
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • English proficiency
  • Self-starter and team player
