Industrial Designer

Whipsaw is looking for an Industrial Designer with a strong background in design principles, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for creating exceptional products. Whipsaw is a highly acclaimed strategy, industrial design, digital design, and product development consulting firm based in San Francisco. For over 25 years, Whipsaw has created successful products and immersive experiences for diverse industries, including consumer electronics, housewares, computing, robotics, medical, scientific, and commercial products for clients such as Google, Meta, Uber, Johnson & Johnson, and Tonal.

We are looking for a motivated team player passionate about design excellence and will support the team with ideation, concept execution, and preparation of highly refined assets. You are motivated by solving complex challenges in various domains and delivering elegant solutions. This role is a hybrid position based in the San Francisco studio with at least 3 days in office.

What you'll do

  • Manage tasks and timelines across multiple projects, ensuring high-quality work is delivered on schedule.
  • Develop and refine product concepts through research, sketching, and 3D modeling, creating designs that meet user needs and project goals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define objectives, explore materials, and integrate manufacturing considerations early in the process.
  • Produce accurate CAD models and high-quality renderings to clearly communicate design intent to clients and stakeholders.
  • Iterate designs based on feedback, market insights, and technical requirements to enhance function, usability, and aesthetics.
  • Support prototyping and testing, including 3D prints and physical models, gathering insights to guide improvements.
  • Prepare detailed design documentation and specifications for manufacturing partners.
  • Stay current with design trends and technologies to bring fresh, innovative ideas to projects.

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or related field.
  • Proficiency in 2D/3D design tools (Adobe, SolidWorks, Rhino, Keyshot, etc.).
  • Skill in sketching, rendering, and communicating concepts.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping methods and tools.
  • Curiosity around materials, manufacturing, and engineering.
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and effective in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication and presentation abilities.
  • Portfolio with sketches, renderings, prototypes, and finished products.
  • Passion for innovation, creativity, and design trends.
  • User-centered problem solving.
  • Current documentation to work in the United States.
