The Penumbra System® is a clot removal device (mechanical thrombectomy by aspiration) used in the operating room for the revascularization of patients with acute ischemic stroke secondary to intracranial large vessel occlusions. Blood clots are suctioned out through tubing and collected inside the removable canister where blood clots are deposited onto a filter screen which is then removed and inspected by doctors. The canister is positioned front and center to allow for maximum visibility from any angle. It also has integrated lighting in order to see operation progress. Whipsaw brought formidable innovation to every design and engineering detail including device transport and setup method, canister removal and retention, vacuum sealing of complete system, controls and ease of operation, clot screen function and access, and the complete user experience.
