As it embarked on a next-generation solution, Openpath partnered with Whipsaw to design and engineer a new wall-mounted reader and mobile app for iOS and Android.
The goal? No key, fab, or wallet needed. Users simply use their own smartphones to instantly open doors while business owners and office managers control access to each and every meeting room or secure facility using the cloud-based solution. Through Openpath’s dashboard platform, users can manage access and monitor usage in real-time.
Our wall-mounted device solution is simple and elegant to fit a broad range of architectural applications. The UX is simple and clever – using a single dot of light to indicate a closed entryway, and a ring when a verified smartphone is held above the reader. The simplicity continues in the app design with clear, bold graphics and a logical flow of information.
In the months since launching, Openpath has continued to grow and was acquired by Motorola Solutions in 2021.
Our team of interaction designers and visual designers collaborated to create an experience flow and visual design style that would provide users with confidence and reduce unnecessary clicks. We were challenged to create an app that felt unique and simple while being versatile enough to be used in a variety of corporate environments without feeling off-brand.
We worked closely with the OpenPath team to develop a flow and feel for the product onboarding that would introduce users to this new system without making them feel like they were going to need to expend great amounts of mental energy to re-learn their office security systems.
